Introduction


North's

An 1895 Directory places Norths Mineral Water Manufacturers as next door to The Crown Minera Water Co.in the Upper Strand.

Federick North was the son of Edwin North a mineral water manufacturer in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The company was called North and Co. Mineral Water Manufacturers, and they were based at New Road, Aylesbury. Frederick's brother William went into partnership with his brother-in-law Robert Jones Randall to form the company 'North & Randall', now famous for a sought after blue top ginger beer bottle..

In 1891 Frederick H. North (born Aylesbury 1858) his wife and three children were listed as living at 1 Monger St. they are not listed in the 1881 directory. His son was born in Swansea in 1890 so they must have moved to Swansea before 1890. His job title in 1891 was Aerated Water Manufacturer foreman and a Directory in a Directory of 1899 he is listed as the Manager of The Crown Mineral Water Co. which was conveniently near his home address. He may have started producing bottles in his own name before working for the Crown Company, by 1901 Frederick North had left Swansea, he is listed in the 1901 census as the Foreman of a Mineral Water Company in Great Yarmouth.

Whilst bottles two and three look identical the design between the words "North" and "Swansea" is different
