Owen Harris Owen Harris (born St John, Swansea 1870) run the Alexandra Hotel, 67 Oxford Street, Swansea, previously the Alexandra Hotel was known as the Alexandra Public House before being renamed about 1910. In the early 1910s Oxford Street was renumbered and the Alexandra Hotel became number 242 Oxford Street, a site now occupied by the former Wollworths. Harris as can be seen from
the advertisement below was also the Proprietor of the Glamorgan Arms,
Mountain Dew and the Alexandra Hotel, although I have only seen bottles
from Alexandra Hotel there may be bottles from the Glamorgan Arms and
Mountain Dew. In 1910 he was also the proprietor of Harris's Hotel, 186
High Street, again I haven't seen any bottles form this hotel. Owen Harris is listed as the proprietor of the Alexandra Hotel in the Swansea and District Trade Directory of 1908-09. Two transfer printed versions,
In 1911 Owne Harris and partners ended the partnership they had in the Alexandra Skating Rink, below are the details as recorded in the papers.
As can be seen from the postcard above the Alexandra Skating Ring was based where the old Swansea Central Police Station stood. |
