SWANSEA BOTTLES

Introduction

Swansea Aerated Water Co.

Based at 34 and 35 Orange Street Swansea. Also listed as 9 Wassail Place.

I have seen various adverts for this company from Trade Directories dated between 1881-1912 but this can only be a very rough estimate of their trading times.

Slaters Trade Directory of 1881-82 lists John Watkins as the manager. Another Trade Directory of the 1880s lists Henry Crowhurst as the manager. Henry Crowhurst was a large brewer in Swansea, he was originally from Kent, Kents symbol is the rearing Invicta horse, which coincidentaly is the Trade Mark on both the Swansea Aerated and Swansea United Brwery bottles.

This firm produced ginger beers with a rearing horse "Invicta" trademark. They were based in Orange Street Swansea which has long been demolished.

One standard all white with horse pictorial.
Three standard all brown versions with standing horse pictorial.

Bottles 1 and 4 shown are from the SMcD Collection

Bottles 2 and 3 almost look the same but bottle 1 has a full stop after Swansea bottle 3 doesn't.
